Indonesia issues travel advice after Brussels bombings

Xinhua, March 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Indonesian government has called on its citizens to reconsider traveling to Belgium over security concerns following recent terrorist attacks in Brussels that killed at least 31 people and injured scores of others on Tuesday.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Thursday issued a travel advice as three Indonesian citizens were among those wounded when the suicide bombers launched the deadly strikes at Zaventem airport and Maelbeek metro station in the city on Tuesday morning.

The three Indonesians have been identified as a mother and her children, a boy and a girl. They were at the airport when the twin blasts took place.

The Indonesian embassy in the Belgian capital, after the incident, immediately issued an advisory for some 1,200 Indonesians in Brussels to remain vigilant.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo condemned the deadly blasts for which Syria-based Islamic State terrorist group has claimed responsibility.

The president also extended his deepest condolences to victims of the suicide bombings and their families, and also the Belgian government. Endit
