A senior Cambodian official on Thursday praised China for pledging 11.5 billion U.S. dollars in loans and credit to support infrastructure development and other projects for the Mekong River countries.
"All countries in this sub-region as well as in ASEAN need financing to construct connectivity infrastructure, so the offer of loans and credit with the lowest interest rates is a development opportunity for the Lancang-Mekong countries," Kao Kim Hourn, minister attached to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, said in a press conference here.
The remarks came after Prime Minister Hun Sen returned from attending the first Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) leaders' meeting in southern China's Hainan province.
"Both ASEAN including Cambodia and the Lancang-Mekong countries give top priority to connectivity development, so the Chinese provision of loans and credit come at the right time," he added. Endit
