1st LD Writethru: Myanmar parliament approves nominees of cabinet members

Xinhua, March 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Myanmar's Union Parliament on Thursday approved 18 nominees of ministers, including Aung San Suu Kyi, submitted by President-elect U Htin Kyaw to run 21 government ministries.

However, the parliament session's Thursday agenda did not deal with the particular portfolio assignment of these ministerial nominees, but proposed to form a constitution-related tribunal with nine persons to handle issues related to constitution if arise.

Of the nine persons, three, namely U Nyee Nyee, U Myint Win and U Myo Myint, were nominated by the president-elect, while U Myo Nyunt, Khin Man Kyu and Daw Khin Htay Kywe were nominated by the House of Representatives (Lower House) and U Daw Kyin Paung, Daw Hla Myo Nwe and U Kyaw Hsan were nominated by the House of Nationalities (Upper House).

The formation of the nine-member constitutional tribunal will be adopted by the parliament next Monday if there is no objection until 4 p.m. Friday local time.

The assignment of portfolios is expected to be announced later. Endit
