Injured Dybala to miss World Cup qualifiers

Xinhua, March 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Juventus forward Paulo Dybala has been ruled out of Argentina's World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia with a right leg injury.

The 22-year-old traveled back to Italy on Wednesday to receive treatment after failing to pass a fitness test, Argentina coach Gerardo Martino confirmed.

"His withdrawal was not unexpected," Martino told reporters. "Juventus were kind enough to allow him to fly down to Argentina, but he will not be ready for these two games."

Martino said he would not call up a replacement for Dybala, who has scored 14 goals in Italy's Serie A this season.

Argentina are currently sixth in the South American zone's World Cup qualifying standings with five points from four matches.

Their clash against 2015 Copa America champions Chile in Santiago on Thursday will be followed by a home match against Bolivia in Cordoba on Tuesday. Endi
