Liberia closes border with Guinea over Ebola return

Xinhua, March 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Liberian government on Tuesday said it has closed its border with Guinea after two new deaths from Ebola virus were recorded in Guinea.

The four main border points in Liberia's northeastern Nimba county were closed by joint security forces on Friday, the government said.

Movement to and from Guinea, including that of local residents doing cross-border business, has been banned.

Guinea last week confirmed two new Ebola cases, more than two months after the World Health Organization declared an end of the disease in the country.

The outbreak of Ebola in West Africa has killed over 11,000 people in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea since it was reported early 2014.

The outbreak was thought over in January after no new cases were reported in 42 days since the last patient was discharged, however new cases were later reported in Sierra Leone, and this time in Guinea. Endit
