The Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) on Tuesday mounted its first multi-sector exercise "Exercise Cyber Star", which marks its first year of operations on April 1, said CSA in a press release on Tuesday.
Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean on Tuesday visited "Exercise Cyber Star", where he observed and interacted with exercise participants. Teo was accompanied by Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-Charge of Cyber Security Yaacob Ibrahim.
"Exercise Cyber Star" comprises a series of scenario planning sessions, workshops and table-top discussions focusing on cyber incident management processes. The exercise scenario covered different types of cyber-attacks including web defacement, wide-spread data exfiltration malware infections, large-scale DDoS attacks and cyber-physical attack.
The final exercise conducted on Tuesday brought together over 100 participants, comprising sector leads and Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) owners from four sectors, namely banking and finance, government, energy and infocomm.
Chief Executive of CSA David Koh said the exercise provided an opportunity for sectors to understand each other's processes and capabilities, which allow CSA to validate the effectiveness of cross-sector cooperation. This cooperation is essential to strengthen the ability to deal with increasingly sophisticated cyber-attacks.
Aside from strengthening sector capabilities through work-up trainings and the establishment of a framework for workflows and processes, CSA has also established a Cyber Forensics Laboratory which is equipped to provide investigative forensic support to Critical Infrastructure Information sectors.
