At least 10 people were killed and 16 others injured Tuesday in two separate road accidents in northern Indian state of Uttar Pardesh, officials said.
Five labourers were killed and eight others injured when a truck collided head on with a tempo in the morning in Allahabad district, about 200 km south of Lucknow city, the capital of Uttar Pradesh.
"The accident took place near Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown under Naini Industrial Area police station this morning," a police official said. "The truck driver was driving his vehicle on wrong side of the road, when it hit the tempo carrying labourers."
In another accident that took place during midnight in Mathura district, east of Lucknow, five people lost their lives and eight others were wounded when a private bus collided with a jeep.
The injured from both the accidents spots were immediately removed to hospitals, police said.
Deadly road accidents are common in India and often caused due to overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.
Global Road Safety Report - 2015 released by WHO last year said India accounts for more than 200,000 deaths annually due to road accidents. Endit
