Palestinians, ICC in talks with focus on "crimes" against Gaza

Xinhua, March 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

A series of meetings are being held between Palestinian officials and representatives of the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutors office in Amman, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki said Monday.

The meetings will last for three days, starting Sunday and including several of the Palestinian civil society organisations, Malki said in a press statement.

Malki said the meetings focus on "the main findings and data about the systematic, illegal and wide spreading Israeli policies and practices."

According to the Foreign Ministry statement, the meetings will address "the occupying power's crimes like settlements, arrests and the continued assaults against our people and land in the the Gaza Strip."

The Palestinians joined the ICC on January 26, 2015, after Palestine was officially declared as a non-member state at the United Nations on November 29, 2012.

The Palestinian National Authority submitted a general complaint to the ICC over "Israeli crimes" last June, followed by a memorandum over the burning of a Palestinian house by settlers last year. Three people, including a toddler, were killed in the arson attack. Endit
