The following are the highlights of Zambia's major media outlets on Saturday.

-- Zambia and Mozambique have signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a coal powered plant to produce 1,200 megawatts of electricity.

The agreement was signed following a closed door meeting between Zambia's President Edgar Lungu and his Mozambican counterpart Filipe Nyusi and the plant, to be built in Mozambique will benefit both countries. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Speaker of the Zambian parliament Patrick Matibini said the 134th Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) assembly being hosted by Zambia is an important platform for resolution of conflicts that threaten democracy.

He said the platform provides a very important space for people from different parts of the world to discuss and resolve some thorny areas of conflict which are a danger to democratic governance.

Zambia is hosting the 134th IPU assembly where 670 members of parliament from 125 national parliaments are expected to attend.

The theme for this year's conference is "Rejuvenating Democracy; Giving Voice to the Youth'. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- The Zambian government said it intends to finalize the process of reviewing the country's labor laws before August this year.

Minister of Labor and Social Security Fackson Shamenda said the government had already conducted a fast track process on important issues where workers were being exploited and that the government was currently waiting for a team of legal experts to draft the pieces of legislation.

The new labor laws among other things have abolished casualization of labor. (Times of Zambia)

-- Authorities in Zambia have unearthed a scam in which foreign transporters were defrauding the government by producing fake toll fee receipts through conniving with unscrupulous agents.

The Road Transport and Safety Agency said some of its officials were stealing security paper and selling it to foreign transporters who were using it to print fake toll receipts.
