Myanmar President-elect to clarify gov't formation proposal

Xinhua, March 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Myanmar President-elect U Htin Kyaw will make clarification speech in the Union Parliament next Monday on his proposal of forming the new government.

It was announced by Speaker of the Union Parliament U Mann Win Khaing Than at the end of Friday' session, during which some five MPs debated over U Htin Kyaw' proposal.

U Htin Kyaw submitted to the Union Parliament Thursday a proposal of forming the new government with reduced number of ministries and ministers compared with that of the outgoing government.

U Htin Kyaw's proposal was put forward two days after he was elected by the parliament as new President of Myanmar for the next five years.

U Htin Kyaw proposed 21 ministries with 18 related ministers to be appointed.

The listed ministries are foreign affairs, agriculture, livestock and irrigation, transport and communication, culture and religious affairs, resources and environmental conservation, electric power and energy, labor, immigration and population, planning and finance, industry, health, education, construction, social welfare, relief and resettlement, hotels and tourist, commerce, information, ethnic affairs, president's office, defense, home affairs and border affairs.

The number of ministries and ministers of the proposal is cut from 36 and 32 respectively in the outgoing U Thein Sein's government.

U Htin Kyaw will make the clarification speech in the Parliament next Monday before the parliament approves the proposal. Endit
