Sao Paulo make bid for Sporting Lisbon starlet

Xinhua, March 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Sao Paulo have made an offer to sign highly rated Brazilian teenager Matheus Pereira from Sporting Lisbon, according to media reports.

Pereira has made 17 first-team appearances for the Portuguese outfit and scored five goals since being promoted from the club's youth ranks last year.

But the 19-year-old has lost his place in Jorge Jesus's team in recent weeks and Sao Paulo have tried to capitalize by offering to sign the player on loan, Brazilian portal Lance reported on Thursday.

Pereira joined Sporting Lisbon's junior academy from Brazilian outfit Trafaria in 2010.

Sao Paulo are in danger of being eliminated from the Copa Libertadores - South America's top club competition - during the group stage with just two points from their first three matches. Endi
