BiH entity leader expects more Chinese investment

Xinhua, March 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Republika Srpska (RS), an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), is open for more Chinese investment, said the RS President Milorad Dodik here on Thursday.

The thermal power plant in Stanari was an example of good economic cooperation and both sides benefited from the project, he told Xinhua.

The 300-megawatt (MW) power plant in northern BiH, which was constructed by China's Dongfang Electric Corporation, is expected to operate commercially from the middle of the year.

"Apart from Dongfang, we were talking with other Chinese companies over other projects, such as highways and other facilities," Dodik said.

Such projects include building a coal-fired power plant in the RS town of Gacko near the border area with Montenegro, as well as the Glamocani-Mlinista Highway connecting Banja Luka and Split, a Croatian city on the Adriatic coast.

Both projects are in the preliminary stages, with memorandum of understanding signed.

Dodik promised to provide his full support and said the RS would work with Chinese partner companies to push for the success of joint projects.

BiH is made up of two autonomous entities, the RS, with a predominately Serbian population, and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with mostly Bosniaks and Croats. Endit
