Kremlin regrets allusion to Russia in U.S. election campaign

Xinhua, March 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Kremlin on Thursday deplored what it claimed as attempts to demonize Russia in the U.S. presidential election campaign.

"I saw the clip. I am not sure if Putin saw it. But we are very negative," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, referring to a video released by U.S. Republican presidential contender Donald Trump, in which clips of Russian President Vladimir Putin practicing Judo and laughing were shown.

The video attempts to show the inability of Trump's potential rival from the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton, to deal with "toughest opponents." It suggests that Clinton only "barks" at opponents like Russia and terrorist groups.

Peskov said that demonizing Russia and everything related to the country has become a "mandatory attribute" of the U.S. election campaign.

"We always regret this. We would like the U.S. election process to proceed without such allusions to our country," he was quoted as saying by Tass. Endi
