Indian PM named in Time magazine's most influential people on internet list

Xinhua, March 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

For the second year in a row, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it to Time magazine's "most influential people on internet list."

The U.S. magazine has described Modi as an "internet star" who has over 18 million followers on Twitter and some 32 million Facebook likes. It says the Indian prime minister often uses social media to "conduct diplomacy," and cited his sudden announcement of Pakistan visit on Twitter last year.

"... Unlike some of his contemporaries, he often uses social media to break news and conduct diplomacy," the magazine said.

On Christmas Day, for example, Modi tweeted that he would visit the Pakistani city of Lahore to wish Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif a happy 66th birthday, the magazine added.

The list that also includes British author J.K. Rowling and U.S. presidential hopeful Donald Trump, was prepared by the magazine based on the contenders' global impact on social media. Endit
