Fox cancells primary debate after key GOP candidates drop out

Xinhua, March 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

U.S. TV network Fox News announced on Wednesday it had cancelled next week's Republican presidential primary debate in Utah.

According to Fox 13 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Utah Republican Party officials confirmed to the TV station that the event was canceled after Trump's announcement of not appearing on the stage led to another candidate Ohio governor Josh Kasich's decision to also drop out.

In that case, Texas Senator Ted Cruz would be the only candidate on stage, reported Fox 13.

Trump announced early Wednesday that he would not show up for the next debate in Utah, adding that he would instead attend a pro-Israel rally.

In the wake of Trump's announcement, Kasich campaign said the Ohio governor would also not appear at the next debate.

"We had hoped to contrast Governor Kasich's positive approach to problem solving with Trump's campaign of division," Fox 13 quoted Kasich's chief strategist John Weaver as saying. "If he (Trump) changes his mind, we will be there." Enditem
