Beijing to get Ferris wheel... finally

A giant Ferris wheel due to be erected in west Beijing by October is set to become a new landmark in the Chinese capital.
Shijingshan Amusement Park's 55-meter-high Ferris wheel has been taken down, refurbished and extended so that it will rise 100 meters into the sky, the park's management said on Wednesday.
The wheel's 42 observation capsules can each accommodate six to eight passengers, and the wheel will be able to carry 7,000 people per day.
The park management will ask visitors to help name what will be the only Ferris wheel in operation in Beijing.
With a designed height of 208 meters, the Beijing Great Wheel in Chaoyang Park was supposed to become the world's highest when construction began in 2007, but the project has been stalled since 2011.
A 62-meter-high Ferris wheel in Beijing Amusement Park was aborted when the park closed in 2010. It will be reopened as a public space by the end of this year. Endi
