At least 14 people were killed in blasts after a suicide bomber sneaked into a mosque early Wednesday in Umarari village on the outskirts of Maiduguri, capital of northeast Nigeria's Borno State, according to local authorities.

So far 21 injured people have been conveyed to a local hospital in Maiduguri city, said Alhaji Dambatta, leader of the civilian joint task force, who coordinated rescue operation after the incident.

The suicide bomber struck during a gathering of Muslim faithfuls in the area, he said.

Borno State police spokesman Victor Isuku, also confirmed the incident to Xinhua, but said rescue operation was still ongoing at the scene of the incident. Endit
