Delta plans Beijing-LA direct flight in December

Xinhua, March 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Delta Air Lines on Monday announced plans to begin daily nonstop service between Los Angeles and Beijing, pending approval from authorities in the two countries.

The Beijing-LA service, scheduled to start on Dec. 16, will be Delta's fifth daily nonstop flight to the Asia-Pacific region in addition to Tokyo (Narita), Tokyo (Haneda), Shanghai and Sydney.

The flight will be carried out by 291-seat Boeing 777-200ERs.

Delta will become the only carrier to offer service to both Beijing and Shanghai from Los Angeles, according to the airline, which added Shanghai service last July.

"Los Angeles, the largest market for service to Asia, drives 21 percent of all U.S.-Asia demand," said the airline in a press release. The launch of Beijing service is timed to capture peak holiday and Chinese New Year traffic.

With the help of its SkyTeam partners China Eastern and China Southern, a Los Angeles-Beijing Delta flight will offer customers connections to more than 39 cities in China, including Chengdu, Shenyang, Qingdao, Xi'an and Hangzhou.

The Los Angeles-bound flight will offer connections to Denver, Las Vegas, Portland, San Diego and Phoenix, as well as 35 other markets throughout the United States, Canada and Latin America. Endi
