Russia expresses condolences to Turkish people over Ankara terrorist attack

Xinhua, March 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his condolences to the Turkish people over the huge death toll caused by a terrorist attack in central Ankara, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Sunday.

"Vladimir Putin condemns the brutal terrorist attack in Ankara. The Russian president mourns together with all the Turkish people, who suffered another terrorist attack," Peskov said.

In a telegram sent to the Turkish government, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev also expressed his deepest condolences.

"On behalf of the government of the Russian Federation, and on my own behalf, I am expressing condolences over numerous victims as a result of a terrorist act in Ankara," he said, adding "there can be no justification for terrorist crimes."

At least 37 people were killed and 125 others injured when a huge blast ripped through the Kizilay Square in the heart of Ankara, near a central bus station, a park and several government ministries.

This is the third major blast in the Turkish capital since last October. No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack. Endi
