11 killed after truck rams into marriage party in India

At least 11 people were killed and nine others injured after a speeding truck rams into a marriage party in northern Indian state of Uttar Pardesh, officials said Saturday.
The speeding truck mowed down the members of marriage party including band players and bystanders in Firozabad district, about 358 km west of Lucknow city, the capital of Uttar Pradesh.
"Eleven people were killed and nine others injured when a tanker type truck run over a marriage party in Firozabad last night," a police official said. "Eight people died on the spot, while three others succumbed to their injures at Agra hospital."
Reports said the members of the marriage party were going in a procession along with band players, when the truck mowed then down.
India's official broadcaster - All India Radio (AIR) said cause of the accident was found to be the break failure.
The injured were hospitalized and of them, condition of five was reported to be critical.
Deadly road accidents are common in India often caused due to overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.
Global Road Safety Report - 2015 released by WHO last year said India accounts for more than 200,000 deaths annually due to road accidents. Endit
