1st LD Writethru: boy killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza: Medics

Xinhua, March 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

A ten-year-old boy was killed on Saturday in a series of predawn Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, said medics, security officials and eyewitnesses.

The Health Ministry in Gaza said in a press statement that Yasin Abu Khousa, 10, was killed and his sister was critically wounded in the Israeli airstrikes on a militant training post in northern Gaza.

Eyewitnesses said they first heard the buzz of the Israeli war jets hovering over the Gaza Strip. A series of explosions then rocked northern and southern Gaza as well as the Gaza city.

Security officials in Gaza said that the Israeli war jets used air-to-ground missiles to strike training posts belonging to the armed wing of Hamas in northern Gaza and one post of Islamic Jihad in the Gaza city.

The officials said that after the first three airstrikes, two missiles were fired on a central Gaza post belonging to militants. A fifth airstrike was carried out on eastern Gaza city.

The Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza facilities came several hours after unknown militants fired four makeshift projectiles into southern Israel. According to Israel Radio, no injuries or damage were reported.

Gaza police and security forces are now on high alert for further strikes by Israeli missiles.

Since the end of the large-scale military offensive waged on the Gaza Strip for 50 days during the summer of 2014, militants have occasionally fired rockets into Israel, with Israel responding each time. Endi
