Guinea Bissau's economy to grow by over 6 pct in 2016

Xinhua, March 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

Guinea Bissau's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will grow by over 6 percent in 2016, the National Bureau of Statistics said Thursday.

The forecast is based on the prospects of a good campaign for export of cashew nuts, the country's main export product, said the statistics bureau.

In 2015, over 170,000 tons of cashew nuts left Bissau port heading to India and China, the main markets for the country's cashew nuts.

The country will export about 200,000 tons of cashew nuts this year, according to the bureau.

Guinea Bissau, which is one of the world's poorest countries, recorded a 4.7 percent GDP growth last year, it said. Enditem
