Michel Bastos to return for Sao Paulo in Copa Libertadores

Xinhua, March 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Having missed his clubs last two games thanks to a thigh injury, Brazil international midfielder Michel Bastos should return for Sao Paulo tomorrow night against River Plate in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.

Bastos injured his right thigh in a state championship game against Ponte Preta 10 days ago, but according to Brazilian daily newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo, should return to the starting line-up on Thursday night.

The Brazilian club are in need of a win after losing their group opener 1-0 at home against Bolivian outfit The Strongest.

Meanwhile, midfielder Wesley looks likely to miss out after suffering the same injury as Bastos. Central defender Breno is also out as he continues treatment for his right knee.

Sao Paulo currently sit third in Group 1, and a second successive defeat in the continental competition could do grave damage to their chances of reaching the knock-out stages.

River Plate are the current Libertadores champions. Endit
