Ronaldo: Plenty to work on despite quarter-final place

Xinhua, March 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Real Madrid striker, Cristiano Ronaldo admitted that although his side have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League they still have to improve if they are to have a chance of lifting the trophy for an historic 11th time.

Ronaldo opened the scoring midway through the second half as Real Madrid made hard work of dispatching Roma 2-0 on Tuesday night after a 2-0 win in Italy in the first leg.

Indeed had the Roma striker, Mohamed Salah in particular, had their shooting boots on it could have been a much more difficult night for Real Madrid than the 4-0 aggregate score may suggest.

In declarations published by UEFA on Wednesday, Ronaldo admitted that there was still plenty to work on.

"We are still lacking a few things... we are lacking continuity, a bit of luck and ambition, but I think we are moving in the right direction," he commented.

Although six of the eight quarter-final places are still to be decided and Real Madrid could still face sides such as FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid or Bayern Munich in the last eight, Ronaldo said he didn't worry about their next rival.

"We don't care, we have to wait to see what is going to happen, there are a lot of games to be played and we all know the quarter and semi-finals are going to be much more difficult," he said.

Ronaldo had praise for goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who kept the Roma at bay with a series of fine saves.

"He has been a key player for us. I think he's been one of the best players in the team and I am very happy for him," he said. Enditem
