UN World Food Program extends activities in Cambodia until 2018

The United Nations World Food Program has extended its activities in Cambodia for 30 months from July 2016 to Dec. 2018 in order to improve food and nutrition security for the most vulnerable children in the country, Gianpietro Bordignon, WFP Representative to Cambodia, said Wednesday.

Speaking during a meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong, Bordignon said the WFP's executive board decided last month to extend the WFP's 145-million-U.S.-dollar Cambodia Program, which started in 2011 and is due to end in July 2016, to Dec. 2018.

"The WFP's executive board also decided to add another 46 million U.S. dollars for the program implementation in the extended period," he said.

According to Bordignon, The WFP's main goal in Cambodia is to improve food and nutrition security for the most vulnerable children and to encourage children to go to school.

For his part, Hor Namhong expressed his gratitude to the WFP for extending its activities in Cambodia and suggested that the WFP help Cambodia combat the impact of climate change. Enditem
