Algerian Paralympic champion Mohamed Allek passes away

Algerian disabled athlete Mohamed Allek died on Tuesday aged 42 after long struggle with illness, his family announced.

Allek won gold medals in the 100m and 200m races at 1996 Atlanta Paralympics Games. He defended his titles and won additional 400m four years later in Sydney.

Allek retired after Paralympics of Beijing 2008. After a long struggle with illness, the Algerian champion succumbed early Tuesday, at his family house in downtown Algiers. Endit
