Philippine supreme court junks disqualification case against woman presidential bet

Xinhua, March 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Philippine Supreme Court dismissed the disqualification case Tuesday against Senator Grace Poe.

This means that the neophyte senator could run for president in the May elections.

Voting 9-6, Supreme Court spokesman Theodore Te told reporters in a press conference that in a "consolidated" petition, the high court "granted" Poe's petition.

Poe had asked the 15-man high tribunal to junk the decision of the Commission on Elections, disqualifying her in the presidential race for failure to meet the 10-year residency and natural-born citizen requirements.

The senator is a foundling and used to be a U.S. citizen. Endit
