Venezuela pays tribute to late revolutionary leader Hugo Chavez

Decked in the color of the Venezuelan blue-red-yellow flag, a motorized brigade on Sunday led commemorations in Caracas, marking the third anniversary of the death of their leader Hugo Chavez.

Flanked by supporters waving flags, the brigade retraced the route of Chavez's casket from the Military Hospital in Caracas to the Military Academy at Fort Tiuna for a state funeral three years ago.

His remains were later taken to the Cuartel de la Montana, or mountaintop military barracks, which has housed his tomb since then.

Some Latin American leaders, including Bolivian President Evo Morales, joined the commemorations over the weekend.

Chavez's defiant attitude towards the region's long dominant super power, the United States, was eyeopening for the rest of Latin America, Morales told participants at an international forum Saturday on the late leader's legacy.

"As a politician, (Chavez was) an anti-imperialist who taught us not to fear the empire, (and) to raise our voices against the empire without any fear," said Morales.

Chavez governed Venezuela from 1999 until his death three years ago after a two-year battle with cancer. Endi
