6 PKK prisoners escape from prison in SE Turkey

Xinhua, March 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Six prisoners of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) fled a prison in southerastern Turkey on Sunday, private Dogan news agency reported.

The group of the prisoners escaped from the closed prison in Diyarbakir province between the provinces of Sanliurfa and Elazig on Sunday morning, according to the report.

The Turkish police has taken the security measures for preventing the PKK prisoners from further escape around the prison in Diyarbakir, said the report.

Turkey's southeast region has seen the worst violence in two decades since a cease-fire between the government and the PKK collapsed in July 2015.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Endit
