More than 500 delegates from 49 member countries of the Organization of Islamic Conference (IOC) were set to take part in the 5th Extraordinary OIC Summit on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif held here, preceded by senior officials and ministerial meetings scheduled on Sunday.
Head of states and governments of OIC member countries were scheduled to present in the extraordinary summit, the first of a kind to particularly discuss breakthrough solutions to settle Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif issues.
The upcoming summit would also be attended by representatives of 3 observer countries, 4 international quartet organizations and 5 permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
"The Summit is expected to encourage the international community to put forward the resolution to the issue of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif given the increasingly worrying situation," a statement released by Indonesian foreign affairs ministry, co-organizer of the event, said on Saturday.
The Summit, themed "United for a Just Solution", was scheduled to conclude on Monday, producing a Resolution that reaffirms OIC commitment to support Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif, and Jakarta Declaration initiated by Indonesia that contains concrete steps to support the cause of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif.
The convening of the 5th OIC Extraordinary Summit is a proof of Indonesia and OIC's relentless support for Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif.
Indonesia will soon officiate its honorary consulate in Ramallah to further enhance cooperation between Indonesia and Palestine.
In 2015, the government of Indonesia hosted the International Conference on the Question of Jerusalem and the commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Asia and Africa Conference, which adopted the Declaration on Palestine. Enditem
