New solar power stations to help Anhui’s poverty reduction

Anhui province has allocated PV power construction fund of about 1.2 billion yuan (US$183 million) to help relieve poverty, building 31,350 household solar power stations with a total capacity of 9.4 megawatt in 2015.

Anhui will continue to build PV power stations for 50,000 households across the 31 poverty-stricken counties this year, with a total capacity of 20 megawatt.

An official from the Anhui poverty-alleviation office said that, the best way to reduce poverty is to take targeted measures and invest directly to key counties and households. The provincial government has issued plans to construct PV power stations for 300,000 households from 2015 to 2020.

It is estimated that each of the 3kW PV power station can reduce sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide and other harmful gases emissions by approximately 45 tons. It will also help control wood consumption, which is beneficial to plantation protection.
