Tokyo shares end sharply higher by break on yen's retreat

Tokyo shares ended the morning session sharply higher on Wednesday with its benchmark Nikkei index soaring over 4 percent on the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar and a better-than-expected U.S. economic survey result.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average skyrocketed 649.30 points, or 4.04 percent, from Tuesday to 16,734.81.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 48.03 points, or 3.69 percent, to 1,348.86. Endit
