Japan's jobless rate drops to 3.2 pct in January

Japan posted an unemployment rate of 3.2 percent in January, the lowest reading in three months, from 3.3 percent logged in December in 2015, according to the government here on Tuesday.

For male workers, the unemployment rate declined 0.2 percentage point in the reporting month from the previous month to 3.4 percent, while that for women remained unchanged at 2.9 percent, said the Internal Affairs Ministry.

The ministry said that the number of the unemployed dropped a seasonally adjusted 4.1 percent to 2.12 million, while the number of workers was up 1.0 percent to 64.58 million.

Meanwhile, separated government data showed that the country's job availability improved to 1.28 in January, the highest level since December 1991, compared to the reading of 1.27 in December.

The ratio means that 128 positions were available for every 100 job seekers. Endit
