Kenyan rangers search 2 roaming lions in Nairobi

Xinhua, February 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Kenya's wildlife rangers on Monday launched a search for two roaming lions that had been spotted in Ngong Road Forest on the outskirts of Nairobi.

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) said the two lions are among the group of four that sneaked out of the Nairobi National Park on Feb. 19, but one returned safely.

"Traffic police patrolling the road this morning at approximately 10:00 a.m. sighted the lions and alerted Nairobi National Park," KWS said.

The statement said the wild animals are reported to have been walking near the fence of the forest block in the neighbourhood, adjacent to the park.

"A KWS search team is currently on the ground and we will keep you updated on our findings," the KWS said.

Four lionesses are reported to have strayed from the park last week but one of them were found.

The whereabout of the fourth one is still unknown.

KWS had also urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid provoking the wild animals in case they come into contact with them.

The incident disrupted movements of people along the area with most residents staying indoors for fear of being mauled by the lions. Endit
