1st LD: "Spotlight" wins Oscar Best Picture Award

"Spotlight," a film based on The Boston Globe's coverage of child sex abuse in the Catholic Church, won the Oscar Award for Best Picture at the 88th Academy Awards Ceremony held at the Dolby Theater Sunday night.

The drama directed by Tom McCarthy beat The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant and Room to get the big prize.

It also won the Award for Best Original Screenplay at the ceremony.

The film has won a number of other major awards, including the outstanding cast award from the Screen Actors Guild. Endi
