Chinese table tennis team doctor saves baby with Guasha treatment

Xinhua, February 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

A photo of a Chinese table tennis team doctor helping a baby girl suffering from febrile convulsion went viral on the internet on Monday.

National team doctor Miao Pu used Chinese traditional method guasha, or scraping therapy to help a one-year baby girl recover from the stroke caused by high fever, according to social media WeChat.

"On Feb. 25, Miao was on AirChina flight CA 871 from Beijing to Kuala Lumpur when he heard the crew calling for help and he got up and went to the little girl," wrote the article on a WeChat public account Table Tennis & Badminton Pioneers.

Miao found the girl already unconscious while her mother wept at her side helplessly.

He asked air stewardess for a small tray to act as the scraping plate and started to scrape the baby's back.

Half an hour after Miao applied the treatment, the girl's body temperature dropped from 39 degrees Celsius to 37.8.

"Take her temperature every hour and come to me whenever there is a problem," Miao told the mother.

After this incident, the Chinese team went on to focus on their trip to the world team championships.

Defending champions Chinese men's team defeated Greece and DPR Korea in their opening group matches while the women's team, also defending champions, brushed aside Hungary and hosts Malaysia. Endit
