The Brazilian defender will undergo a surgery after suffering a separated shoulder, the "Wolves" announced via the club's official homepage on Sunday.
Naldo will be ruled out for the next weeks after sustaining a separated should in Saturday's 2-0 loss to Bundesliga front-runners Bayern Munich. He must thus undergo a surgery in the coming week.
"Every injury is bitter but Naldo played a mayor role in our defence. We wish him a speedy recovery but we know it its possible that he might miss the rest of the season," Wolfsburg's coach Dieter Hecking said.
The 33-year-old centre-back, who suffered the injury in the 72nd minute following a tackle by Bayern's Thiago, plays since 2012 for Wolfsburg and quickly became the skipper of the defence. He made 113 appearances and scored 16 goals since his arrival.
"It bothers me of course a lot that I cannot help the team at this important stage of the season. I will give everything to return to the pitch as soon as possible," Naldo said.
The loss of the former Brazilian international is a blow for coach Dieter Hecking, who will have to rely on youngster Robin Knoche and Dante for the time being.
The "Wolves" occupy currently the 8th place of the Bundesliga standings. After beating K.A.A. Gent 3-2 at the first leg of UEFA Champions League's last sixteen two weeks ago, they face the Belgian outfit for the second leg on March 8. Endit
