Warriors secure NBA playoff berth with 24 regular-season games remaining

Xinhua, February 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Golden State Warriors, the defending NBA champions, have secured a playoff spot before the end of February with 24 regular-season games to go.

The Houston Rockets' loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night assured the Warriors among the top eight teams in the Western Conference.

Moreover, Warriors boasted a 53-5 record, the best start in the league history, when Stephen Curry's 30-feet 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds remaining in overtime gifted the Warriors a 121-118 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night.

Curry, the reigning MVP, also refreshed his own record for 3-pointers in a season to 288.

Statistics showed that the Warriors has become the third NBA team to clinch a playoff spot before the end of February. The other two are the Boston Celtics (1985, 1986) and the Los Angeles Lakers (1988). Enditem
