1st LD: Car bomb blast kills 2 in Syria's Hama

Xinhua, February 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least two people were killed Saturday when a car bomb went off in Syria's central province of Hama, just hours after a cessation of hostilities deal went into effect in Syria, state-TV reported.

A suicide car bomber detonated his car at the eastern entrance of the city of Salamyieh in the eastern countryside of Hama, said the report, adding that four people were also wounded and taken to a hospital in Salamyieh.

The car was rigged with around one ton of explosives, said SANA, noting that the eastern countryside of Hama, near Salamyieh, contain positions of the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front and the Islamic State (IS).

Both groups are excluded from the cessation of hostilities deal, which went into force at midnight Friday.

The deal, which was agreed upon by Russia and the United States and endorsed by the UN Security Council on Friday, excludes the Nusra and the IS as both have been designated as terrorist groups by the UN. Endit
