Palestinian president spokesman denies Iranian fund help

Xinhua, February 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Palestinian president spokesman on Friday denied reports about Iranian funds to be paid to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails or victims of house demolitions.

The government doesn't know and has not been informed of the reported helps from Iranian funds, said spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeinah, according to the official news agency WAFA.

He said the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has never wavered in supporting the Palestinian people and alleviating their sufferings.

The government refuses any attempt to override such matter and reiterates that the PLO is the sole and legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, he added.

Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad Fatah Ali said on Wednesday that Iran will provide funds to families of the Palestinians killed during the conflicts with Israel since last October. The ongoing violence has left over 180 Palestinians and 30 Israelis dead.

The ambassador said each family will receive 7,000 U.S. dollars, while each of those whose house was demolished would receive 30,000 dollars.

The funds are expected to be paid through an Iranian funded charity which is providing aids in several Islamic countries. Endit
