The Danish restaurant Geranium on Wednesday became the country's first ever to be awarded three Michelin stars.
The Copenhagen-based restaurant won the accolade as Michelin presented their "Michelin Nordic Guide 2016" at a press meeting here.
Rebecca Burr, editor-in-chief of the Michelin Nordic Guide, said the guide had "handpicked the very best restaurants and hotels throughout Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, and the result is a record number of new stars in 2016."
In the new guide, four Danish restaurants earning first time's stars were Kadeau on the Danish island of Bornholm, Frederiksminde in Praestoe, Henne Kirkeby Kro in Jutland and Kong Hans Kaelder in Copenhagen.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian restaurant Maaemo with Danish chef Esben Holmboe Bang behind, also received third stars in the new guide.
Rasmus Kofoed, who is the head chef and co-owner of Geranium, won the gold medal at the 2011 Bocuse d'Or in Lyon after previously taking the bronze medal in 2005 and the silver medal in 2007 in the same competition. Endit
