Iceland's unemployment stands at 2.8 pct in January

Iceland's unemployment rate stood at 2.8 percent in January 2016, registering a year-on-year decrease of 1.5 percentage points, according to a survey issued Wednesday by Statistics Iceland.

The survey showed the number of people in the labor force market in January was 192,500, among whom 5,400 were unemployed.

Seasonally-adjusted data showed that a total of 196,100 people are in the labor market, and the unemployment rate was 2.5 percent in January, which is 0.4 percentage points higher than it was in December 2015.

Seasonal adjustment is a statistical method for removing the seasonal component of a time series that is used when analyzing non-seasonal trends. Enditem
