Diving World Cup nears conclusion

Xinhua, February 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Day five of the 20th FINA diving World Cup took place on Tuesday at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Center as the tournament nears its conclusion.

Chinese superstar and reigning world champion Qiu Bo would start the men's blue riband event the 10m platform as favorite in the preliminary round prior to final.

Qiu's superiority was there for all to see and he comfortably took first place in the qualifying for the final with a score of 535.15.

Ivan Alejandro Garcia Navarro was second with the German Sascha Klein third.

Next up was the women's 3m springboard semifinal. Again, the Chinese dominated the qualifying with Shi Tingmao and He Zi taking first and second place respectively with Canada's Jennifer Abel third.

With another summer storm looming diving got underway in the women's 3m springboard final.

Straight from the early rounds the Chinese pair of Shi and He started to pull away from the rest of the field.

By the end of the fifth round Shi was in first place to win the gold.

China also took the silver medal thanks to He's strong performance with Canada's Jennifer Abel third. This mirrored the results earlier in qualifying.

Wednesday will be the last day and will only feature the men's semifinal and final of the 10m platform. Endi
