Jamaica opened its 2016 parliamentary elections Monday, with the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Jamaica Defense Force and election day workers arranged to vote ahead of most citizens Thursday to exercise their duty on election day.
A total of 2,569 soldiers, 10,041 police and 26,498 election day workers are on the voter's list, who would vote at 195 polling stations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time (1300-2100 GMT), the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) said.
There are 1,824,410 voters, the most in Jamaican history. They will decide whether the current ruling People's National Party or the main opposition Jamaica Labor Party would win the majority of the 63 seats in the House of Representatives.
In Jamaica, house representatives are elected for a five-year term. The parliamentary majority will form the cabinet and its leader will become the prime minister. Endi
