Leaders of Bangladesh, India and Iran have sent congratulatory messages to Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah on the occasion of the sultanate's 32nd National Day, a local daily reported Sunday.

In a statement issued through the High Commission of Bangladesh in Brunei, Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid said Bangladesh and Brunei share a special time-tested relationship and both countries nurture a shared commitment to peace, security and development both bilaterally and regionally.

"I take this opportunity to convey my best wishes for your Majesty's good health and happiness as well as peace and prosperity for the people of Brunei Darussalam," said the president.

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee extended warm greetings to the Sultan and the people of Brunei Darussalam on the occasion of Brunei's National Day.

The message, issued via the High Commission of India in Brunei, said the Indian president has conveyed to the Sultan that India and Brunei have long enjoyed close ties of friendship and cooperation.

In his congratulatory message to Brunei, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani expressed his hope to the Sultan that the efforts and political will of the officials of the two countries will see the increasing expansion of relations between Iran and Brunei in line with the interests of the two Muslim and brotherly nations.

Brunei will be celebrating its 32nd National Day on February 23 in the capital where more than 21,000 people are expected to join the event. Enditem
