Faustin-Archange Touadera, former prime minister of Central African Republic, has won the Feb. 14 presidential election, the electoral commission said Saturday.

Touadera won 62.71 percent of votes cast in the poll. The 58-year-old was the prime minister during the regime of Francois Bozize between 2008 and 2013. Central African Republic is trying to turn the page after three years of unprecedented violence since the March 2013 overthrow of Bozize by Michel Djotodia, leader of ex-rebel group, Seleka. DAMASCUS -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said he is ready for cease-fire in Syria on condition that the "terrorists" don't exploit it.

Assad said halting the military operations in Syria demands deterring the terrorists from exploiting it to enhance their positions. He pointed out that countries, like Turkey, must stop sending more terrorists and arms as well as providing logistical support to the terrorists. (Syria-terrorist-cease-fire)

WASHINGTON -- Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Saturday snatched a key victory in Nevada Democratic caucuses days before the crucial "Super Tuesday" round on March 1, according to projections by major U.S. TV networks.

The modest victory was crucial to Clinton after the former first lady suffered erosion of supports nationwide in the wake of a near tie in Iowa and a stinging 22-point loss in New Hampshire. (Clinton-U.S.-election)

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir -- At least three Indian paramilitary troopers and a civilian were killed and 10 other people injured Saturday in a gunfight between militants and security forces in Indian-controlled Kashmir's Pulwama district, said officials.

The gunfight ensued after the militants attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bus on the Jammu-Srinagar highway and then entered a training institute located nearby, said a police officer. (India-gunfight-killing)

ISLAMABAD -- At least seven people were killed and eight others injured when lightning struck their house in Pakistan's east Khushab district on Saturday, local media reported.

Dawn News reported that the house was levelled to ground when the lightning struck it, trapping its 15 occupants under the rubbles in Puran Chowk area of Khushab, a district located in the country's east Punjab province. Police said that the house, which was already in a dilapidated condition, collapsed due to heavy rains followed by the lightning strike. (Pakistan-lightening-killing) Endi
