Palestinian shot dead trying to run over Israeli soldiers in West Bank

Xinhua, February 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Palestinian man was killed after allegedly trying to run over Israeli soldiers in the West Bank on Friday afternoon, the Israeli army said.

The incident took place in Silwad, a Palestinian village northeast of Ramallah, where clashes were taking place between soldiers and local residents, an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said, adding that soldiers responded by shooting at and killing the assailant.

This is the second attack on Friday, amid an ongoing five months of violence between Palestinians and Israelis.

Earlier on Friday, two Israeli policemen were injured in a stabbing attack at the Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem, the Israeli police said. The assailant, identified as a 20-year-old resident of an east Jerusalem Arab neighborhood, was killed by a policeman at the scene.

On Thursday, an Israeli soldier was killed and another person moderately wounded in a stabbing attack at the Sha'ar Binyamin Industrial Zone in the West Bank, north of Jerusalem.

The ongoing violence has claimed a toll of 27 Israelis and more than 160 Palestinians since early October, 2015. Endit
