Wolfsburg lose defender Sebastian Jung to serious injury

Xinhua, February 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Wolfsburg's right back Sebastian Jung suffered a cruciate rupture, the Bundesliga outfit announced in an official statement on Thursday.

Wolfsburg reaped a 3-2 victory over KAA Gent in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. It was a costly win for the "Wolves" though, as right back Sebastian Jung has ruptured the cruciate ligaments in his left knee before the break.

"The injury is very bitter for Sebastian. He showed an upward trend and indicated how important he is for the team. We hope for a quick recovery," Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking said.

The 25-year-old defender told the club's official homepage: "I had planned a lot for the second half of the season now I must first digest this shock. I will do everything to recovery quickly so that I can return to the pitch soon."

Wolfsburg occupy the eighth place of the standings. They encounter fourth placed Hertha Berlin at the 22nd round in Bundesliga on Saturday before they see Gent for the second leg in Champions League on March 8. Endit
