Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province seized more than 29,000 guns in 2015, said the provincial public security bureau on Thursday.
Last year, police authorities in Yunnan uncovered more than 1,400 gun- and explosive-related criminal cases and arrested 1,300 suspects, the bureau said in a statement.
Police raided 35 gun and explosive production and storage sites. They also seized 12,000 replica guns, 211 tonnes of explosives, 800,000 bullets and 50,000 controlled knives.
The harsh crackdown helped to curtail gun- and explosive-related crimes.
In 2015, gun- and explosive-related crimes slumped 50 percent and 73.7 percent, respectively, from a year earlier.
Local police will continue the harsh crackdown on terrorists, drug smugglers, mafia-style gangs and those involved in gun-, explosive- and gambling-related crimes this year, the bureau said.
Yunnan is among the Chinese regions most affected by drug use, due to its proximity to the opium-growing Golden Triangle in neighboring Southeast Asian countries. It is also a source of domestic drugs. Endi
