Malaysia's economy expands 5 pct in 2015

Xinhua, February 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Malaysia's economy expanded by 5 percent in 2015 year-on-year, with its economic growth in the fourth quarter registering at 4.5 percent, according to a statement of Bank Negara Malaysia, the country's central bank, on Thursday.

According to the Department of Statistics of Malaysia, the country's economic growth slowed down a little bit in the fourth quarter of 2015 compared to the 4.7 percent increase in the third quarter.

"On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally adjusted, the economy increased 1.5 percent," it said in a statement.

Bank Negara Malaysia said that the economic growth in the fourth quarter was supported mainly by the private sector demand, while on the supply side, growth was underpinned by the major economic sectors. Enditem
